At the time, I noticed that the pins holding the counterweights seemed a bit worn, and that there was very little spring resistance to swinging them out for the first few degrees. Using the timing light adapter: Connect the timing. There are two ways to do this: Using the spark plug wires: Connect the timing light’s inductive clamp to one of the spark plug wires. I pulled my dizzy about 1000 miles ago, disassembled, cleaned, added a touch of lube to the appropriate spots, and put it back together. To set the timing on a 12V 5.9 Cummins engine, you will need to use a timing light. Timing advances correctly, but it is still a very shaky mark under the strobe light. In general terms for the main fuel injection event, this is likely to be in the vicinity of perhaps 10 to 15 degrees before TDC. The timing-advance works directly off of fuel pressure made from the back of the injection pump via a bladed low-pressure fuel pump. What I mean is, it looks like it is vibrating all over the place as much as 1/2 inch or so. When were talking about diesel injection timing were going to be referencing the point when the injection first starts, which is referred to as SOI or start of injection. When I put a timing light on this my engine, the timing mark never settles down in one spot. there are various ways of doing this i prefer using a dial indicator and a degree wheel. ![]() I don't know the model number - but someone will enlighten me I am sure of it. to time the engine you need to get tdc marked on your balancer.
